New York Times Article on Blogging

This article appeared last friday I believe in the New York times. I have very good intentions of blogging about it when it first came out. But blah, blah, blah, blah blah....you know how it is, something always comes up.

So, for those of you who haven't seen it, I thought it was a good read albeit long. I have to admit my first reaction was pretty negative. I felt like she was bashing anyone who blogs calling them attention whores(her word, not mine) who need to tell people about their experiences to get the attention they crave. While I'm sure to some degree that is true, I think it's safe to say that is not completely what blogging is about. I've read several blogs where people are going through a hard time and are able to blog about it, and the get support (not the attention) they desperately need. So I have decided to look at blogging in that way, a support network, a place to share thoughts, feelings, and opinions. Doing so in a public space comes with responsibilities of course. And since I'm behind on posting they NY Times has since come out with another article where the writer responds to some of the comments posted about her piece. I found those interesting too.

I'm interested to check these out. And, I agree about your take on blogging. I think it's a good way to keep connected to other people. I would also argue that blogs are a good way to encourage others.
