Feeling Sorry for W

Jake: when Bush threw out the first pitch last night at the Nationals game, he was booed
Becca : really??? Can you imagine feeling that unpopular. I'm not sure anyone has that thick of skin.
Jake: yeah, that has to be hard
Jake: the video of it is just jaw dropping
Jake: he was still smiling and waving, but man, what is going on in his head
Becca: Exactly, I know he sealed his own fate by getting us into this stupid war in the first place, but I can't help but feel sorry for him.
Jake: you are so a republican now
Becca: crap!

Yummy!

In an effort to be more fiscally responsible, we made hot fudge banana milkshakes at home tonight instead of going to Curly's. Homemade milkshakes are good!

Please Make Sure you have Locked the Door!

At work, in the womens bathroom we have this sign on one of the stall doors.

The first time I saw this sign, it made me laugh really hard. Of course! Didn't we learn this in kindergarten? Because all I really need to know I learned in Kindergarten.

The reason this sign is here, is because the lock is a bit sticky and it feels like you've locked the door, but you have to really tug on it to make sure it's actually locks.

Yesterday I had my first experience with someone not locking the door completely and the person I chose to accidentally walk in on was a client! Needless to say a scurried out of there face beet red.

As a side note, it took me three trips to the bathroom today to get this picture. Figured it was something best done with no one around!

The post that started it all

As you can clearly tell from this blog, Jake and I have recently gotten a dog. We are so happy with our decision to get a dog, but at times, especially in the beginning, it was quite stressful.
One afternoon Jake sent me this blog post from a blogger called Dooce. I read this post and was seriously laughing so hard I had tears coming out of my eyes. The good kind of tears for a change.

Thus began my love affair with a lady blogger named Dooce. I read Dooce every day, let me rephrase that, even if she doesn't have a new post I read Dooce every day, I have connected with this crazy women in the desert so much that I read old posts, a lot of old posts. Jake thinks I'm the crazy women , but I kind of look at it like reading a novel. An autobiography if you will.

Why am I telling you about my dooce obsession. Because she along with my friend Andie were the biggest influences in my starting a blog. I enjoy both of their blogs very much. I enjoy that a lot of their blog posts revolve around pictures. I like that they ask questions of the internet, and I like that their main purpose for blogging is to share events of their lives.

I want to thank Andie for the blog name suggestion. I am lucky to have a friend who is so creative, because I am so not creative.

And Dooce, if you ever happen to come across my blog, I am lucky you were so willing to share your life on the internet for me to read and feel happy that even as I was struggling with a new puppy, at least I live in Texas, and NEVER had to take her out in the snow.

For the rest of you check out Eggtropolis and Dooce on my cool reads section.

What I did over Spring Break

Jake and I watched the first 3 seasons of The Office on DVD in 7 days. Not sure if I'm proud of that, or embarrassed by that.

Food is Good

Before we start the next weekend, I wanted to get a post up about last weekend. Last Thursday, after my very stressful Biostatistics mid-term, my friend Mary came to visit Jake and I here in Fort Worth.

We had a really good time. Probably one of the best weekends I've had since we moved to Fort Worth. We did a lot of really fun activities, and ate at a lot of really good places.

Saturday morning, Mary and I took the long drive over to Dallas, to go to the Dallas Farmers Market.

The food was beautifully displayed and we were excited to pick up some
goodies for the evenings dinner.

Probably the coolest thing at the market though was the flowers. Since spring has come to Texas, the market was, at the risk of sounding cheesy, literally bursting with color.

I was only going to put one picture, but this was my favorite.

Saturday evening we hit the town. We went to this super chill bar, with good beer and comfy couches and chairs, and a great dueling piano bar. Thank you Mary for coming, we had a great time.

Longhorn Lucy

I am playing around with adding pictures to this website, so I figured I'd introduce everyone to Longhorn Lucy herself.

This is Lucy the day we brought her home

This is a picture of Lucy trying to eat me this weekend.

In the two and a half months that we've had her, she's gone from a 6lb baby who bites at our feet and chews on everything but her toys. To a 30lb baby who bites at our feet and chews on everything but her toys.

Goodies

I'm trying to decide if I should feel guilty for eating my lunch......then going to the CVS and spending $5 in treats. All of which I plan on eating today!

Longhorn Lucy and her Owner

Dear Interwebs,

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to tell you a little more about myself.

My name is Rebecca Kelm, most people call me Becca, but for some reason I really dislike seeing Becca in print. Mostly on formal things, like name badges for work, or wedding invitations. If you ever invite me to you wedding please address the envelope to Rebecca Kelm.

Moving on, I am from Minnesota and have lived there all my life. I moved to Fort Worth about four months ago. I moved because I was ready for a change, don't like the cold, and was ready to start my masters degree. Somehow, I convinced my boyfriend to move here with me.

Jake and I have started a lot of new fun things since we moved here. We are doing a lot more cooking and I must confess on fan's of the Rachel Ray cookbooks. 30 minutes meals.... I don't think so.

We also have started Friday night dinners, where we try to go to a new restaurant in the area every Friday night. Interwebs, I would welcome any suggestions.

In January , we got a new puppy. Lucy, a yellow lab, Australian Shepherd mix we got from the humane society. After having her a week, the question I ask myself is why did I decided to get a puppy the same week I started a graduate program? Oh well, it's a done deal. She is the cutest thing ever and I am hopelessly attached.

A few other fun facts about me. I enjoy making lists. I love the Fort Worth neighborhood we have ended up in. I do not miss the Minnesota winters, or snow, but know I will miss the Minnesota summers, and the lakes.

My favorite book is A Thousand Splendid Suns, I used to read a lot more before Jake moved in with me and brought his 3 different gaming consoles. I am 30 years old and play more video games than I ever have in my life.
