A year to remember, or maybe forget

Let's just say that 2010 was not my year. I can't really even think back without tearing up.

I started a post noting some of the things that have happened through out the year, but many of them are very personal and hard to think about.

So, I'm stealing the contents of a post from my friend (well we don't really know each other, but I think she'd be my friend if we did), and doing a list

Remembering 2010:

The Best month:
July. Jake and my vacation to Costa Rica was a highlight

The Worst Month:
March. Experiencing a miscarriage while being 8 hours from home without my husband is not something I ever want to experience again.

Most significant thing that happened:

There were a lot of things that happened this year that will shape the person I will be in the future. It is hard to name just one.

Person who had the most impact on your life:
Jake, we’ve really had to lean on each other a lot this year, and while there were some rough patches, I know for sure he is the man for me, and I look forward to many HAPPY years with him.

Biggest surprise of last year:
The sale of Drop.io. I am very proud that the startup my husband worked for sold and his hard work paid off.

Biggest challenge of the year:
Searching for a job, being underemployed and still not exactly sure what I want to do with my career.

Biggest regret of the year:
Not being honest with a close friend. I was so worried that if I was honest with her, I’d end up losing her as a friend. I wasn’t honest, and ended up losing her as a friend anyway. I think I was in a no win situation with that one but I should have been honest.

Moments that stand out the most:
I could fill this sucker with tough moments that stand out, but there are two good ones that stick in my mind. My sister in law’s wedding. It was fun to see her so happy and be there to celebrate with her and Christmas with my family and my sisters house.

Goals Accomplished:
I got a job related to public health, specifically dealing with nutrition.

New things learned:
Bad things happen to good people. But good people can press on, and be good again.

Most listened to band:
Does NPR count?

Best concert attended:

We went to a First Friday on the Green one beautiful fall evening. I don’t even remember the music, but we enjoyed the company of our friends Josiah and Rachel, and their son.

Favorite movie of the year

Jake would say Inception... It was pretty good... I’m not really a favorite movie kind of girl. I might say Get Him to the Greek.. a movie we went to with Josiah and Rachel, we had a really great dinner afterward, and spontaneously met up with our other good friends for a nightcap.

Favorite thing to do:
Eat!

Favorite new TV show of the year:
Big Bang Theory. So great if you are married to a nerd.

Best book of the year:
The Help, by Kathryn Stockard.

Favorite food of the year:
I love food, how can I pick a favorite.... The Pizza by Il Cane Rosso at Times Ten Cellars is pretty high up there.

Favorite drink of the year:
The French Berry Lemonade at Thom Thumb. It’s a special treat every now and then.

Favorite place visited:
Costa Rica of course, but I also really had a great time with some friends in San Marcos, TX in May.

I know tomorrow is just another day in the week, and doesn't automatically take away the anger, hurt, fear, and frustration I've felt over the year, but it is an opportunity to wipe the slate clean, change my mindset and move forward with my life.

Got any new years resolutions? Let’s look forward to 2011 together tomorrow!!

Good Tidings

Merry early Christmas.

This is as close to a Christmas letter as I'm going to get this year. Jake and I are leaving tomorrow to head to the snowy upper midwest to celebrate Christmas. This year we are lucky enough to see both families. One of my sisters recently moved to a town about an hour away from Jake's family, so we will be splitting our time between her house, where my parents and other sister will be visiting and Jake's Mom's house.

I am happy to have a chance to see both sides of the family but a little sad that we aren't spending any time in Minnesota to see our friends. I guess we'll just have to schedule another trip.....but we might wait until there isn't 20 inches of snow on the ground to do so.

Happy Holiday's to you.

Love,

The Goods

Grudge Match

Oh man am I sore. I'm really struggling to get off the couch right now.

I haven't had a lot to say about my running lately because it's been going really well. I'd been getting my runs in, they've been pretty smooth. It's been feeling better to run on gravel instead of the street, so I've been sticking to that. My work is pretty close to the Trinity Trails so it's pretty easy to go right there after work, as long as I remember everything.

But lately, as in the last week, things have been getting tough. I feel like each run is like a grudge match, ok maybe grudge match is a little strong, but it's just been tough. I'm having to cajole myself into going and when I'm done I just feel tired. Plus, it's been cold. Wah, Wah, Wah

I'm sure it's my body adjusting to the longer length, more frequently. I'm working on the stretching, and have been using my foam roller to work out the kinds.

But man am I sore!!

100 Things Project, Assorted Items

In an attempt to create a little more space in our house, I have decided to embark on a modified version of the 100 things project.

Here are a few random items I was holding on to.

A broken shelf...not only was I still holding onto this thing, but it was in our storage unit, so I was paying additional money to keep my broken shelf.

This Jillian Michaels DVD for the Wii. My mother in law bought this, and tried to tell me it was no good, but I misunderstood and thought she was saying it was too hard. IT WASN'T. For someone who is supposed to be a fitness hard ass, who has other videos who people have quoted as the best $9 they ever spent I was pretty disappointed by this game, and should have gotten rid o it a long time ago.

Our petsmart training booklet from Lucy's puppy class. Let's face it. Lucy failed puppy class, the only reason she got her certificate was because I'm pretty sure they don't fail anyone in puppy class.

100 Things Project, Single girl items

In an attempt to create a little more space in our house, I have decided to embark on a modified version of the 100 things project.

There are a number of things I'm still holding on to from my days as a single 20 something. I am no longer single, and no longer a 20 something, so it is time (read overdue) to get ride of these items.

  • candles, I believe once you live with a man, there is a limit to the number of candles you can display in your house.
  • wall hangings, touting the benefits of female friends, or of your wile and willy single girl days.
  • mementos from any other relationships
  • wicker baskets, see first bullet
  • things with flowers on them, see first and fourth bullet point
  • stuffed animals of any kind, frankly I am just to old to have these things laying around
